Puerto de la Cruz
Puerto de la Cruz is the largest resort
in the north of Tenerife. One feels a
certain elegance and nobility
still today at this steeped in traditional
place.
First a short view into the direct past.
Puerto de la Cruz was created once as
port of La Orotava. English and Dutch
dealers established themselves there.
They were attracted by mild climate
and of the situation in the fruitful
Orotavatal with its various vegetation.
They shipped the agricultural products
from here. It was owed to their
prosperity that buildings of splendour and a cultural scene developed.
Here are the old palaces and trading
firms, which were transformed in the
meantime to hotels and restaurants.
The narrow lanes in the old dockland with
the many cosy restaurants and Cafés and
the generous parking places of the
upper city, as well as the places with
the sumptuous palm vegetation invite to
stay and create a good
atmosphere.
A long bright beach with white
Saharasand was developed. A promenade
runs parallel to the Ocean where
different pools were built in an
artistic style, which adapts to the
environment harmoniously. One can swim the whole year round safely.
With the beginning of mass tourism starting from 1960 in Puerto de la Cruz
large hotels and apartment plants grew. All in all this place
even
radiates today another breath
of tradition and
first of all by its faithful loyal
visitors
again and again visited. Others are
attracted by the tranqulity and
relaxation and not primeraly by the
sunshine and the hectic way of ife.
