Climate and health in narrow correlation

Unscientifically expressed, one could say...

"Unscientifically expressed, one could say that vacationers and scientists are visiting the Canary Islands for the same reasons: because of the excellent Climate."

This sentence does not originate from the folder, but from the previous President of the Federal Republic of Germany, Richard van Weizsäcker. He said this in June 1985 on the occasion of the inaugural of the international observatories in Tenerife and in Las Palma.

From Weizsäcker, he has brought a simple denominator , that the Canary Islands have special meteorological conditions, which offer practically a worldwide unique requirement for the research of the universe. Here the stars shine in the most brilliant way, for the especially pure air procures the scientists exceedingly favourable conditions for observations.

The vacationers hungry for the sunshine are looking for cloudless days as well as the astrophysicians for an area with starry nights as much as possible – for where clouds appear, it is, as extended as a gigantic curtain before that window in the universe.

Like a freshly cleaned window
However, not only the many starry nights have influenced the scientists to transfer their centres of exploration to the Canary Islands.

The "quality of heaven" is likewise important for them, and they praise the Canary Archipelago in all the world. By this we understand the completely pure air, which is present on the islands. Trade winds, called by the inhabitants of ages past the "Alisio", named normally "Elysics Winds", come across the Atlantic to the Canary Islands without any contamination. Due to this fact the astrophysicians are able to face a "quality of the heavens" like a freshly cleaned window.
